So Many Reasons to Celebrate!
Best Smile - Class of 2017
Dr. Brad Stovie's patient, Kylie, was voted best smile by her classmates at Jefferson High School! A few years ago, Kylie sought Dr. Stovie’s care to correct a significant overbite. Dr. Stovie developed a treatment plan that utilized appliances along with upper and lower brackets. After a little over a year and a half, treatment was complete. What a beautiful smile!
Congratulations to Our Graduates!
Dr. Stovie's son, Cal, graduated from Loras College and his daughter, Maddix, from Xavier High School. After seeing first-hand the difference a dentist can make, Cal is applying to dental schools. Maddix will attend Cornell this Fall. [Smiles by Dr. Stovie]
Dr. Shannon Hingst's son, Andrew, graduated from Regina High School in Iowa City. Andrew plans to attend UNI in the Fall. [Smile by Dr. Stovie]
Melissa Dostal’s (Treatment Coordinator) son, Nolan, graduated from Xavier High School and will be heading to Cedar Falls to study at UNI.

Jim F – "20 years of “dental phobia” caught up with me. Needless to say, they had quite a menu of corrections to make. I have one more session to finish up but, after my first session, less than 24 hours later, I am back at work feeling 100% and absolutely no discomfort. Just smiling faces and professional care. If my memory serves, Dr. Shannon, Heidi, and Sandy were three of more that deserve the thanks."
Deb S – "I always have a good experience at The Dental Center. I am always nervous because of past unpleasant dentist visits as a child. But the staff always tries to put me at ease and make me feel comfortable. If I need dental work done, I am always sure the staff will take great care of me and make the visit as painless as possible. I would highly recommend Dr. Stovie and my hygienist, Marie! They are the best!!"
Patricia S – "I chipped a tooth and phoned the office to get an appointment. Dr. Haganman worked me in the following day at noon. I was seen without delay and he fixed the fractured tooth. It feels amazing! Whenever I have an issue they always get me in. Nice to know you don’t have to suffer for days when something unforeseen happens."
Cyndie H – "Although my expected treatment plan for a problem tooth will be lengthy, my appointment to get it all scheduled was not. I was in and out in 20 minutes and have a clear plan for my repair. Best dental office!"
How dental veneers from Cedar Rapids can enhance your smile
If you are getting a bit older, you may have noticed your smile aging too. Aging can cause your tooth enamel to become thinner, exposing the layer underneath called dentin. This layer is yellow, and it becomes darker as you age. The overall effect is a dull, darkening smile.
Now, thanks to state-of-the-art materials and techniques, you can renew your smile. The answer is dental veneers! Your dentists at The Dental Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, want to share the facts about what dental veneers can do for your smile.
Dental veneers can correct many cosmetic issues with your teeth, including:
- Excessive wear or chipping due to aging
- Cracks or damage due to trauma
- Tooth overlap or gaps due to genetics
- Stains or discolorations due to medications or lifestyle
Dental veneers are thin sheaths of porcelain or plastic which are cemented over the front surfaces of your teeth. Typically your new veneers will take between two and three appointments:
Your first appointment is a consultation appointment during which you and your dentists will review how your veneers will look and what you can expect during treatment.
The second appointment is a tooth preparation appointment during which a minimal amount of tooth structure is removed (just enough to accommodate the thickness of the veneers) and molds are taken of your teeth. These molds are sent off to a dental laboratory, where skilled dental artists will create your veneers.
The third appointment is the final cementation of your new veneers after they have been sent back from the dental laboratory. Your dentists in Cedar Rapids will teach you everything there is to know about caring for your new veneers.
